Advanced Technology Center
The Advanced Technology Center (ATC) is the result of a partnership between Tidewater Community College, Virginia Beach City Public Schools and the City of Virginia Beach. This facility is unique among educational institutions as it offers secondary and post secondary students the highly technical training of today's workforce.
I attended the Advanced Technology Center five days a week for around five hours everyday. The ATC offers three strands of learning:
ARCHITECTURE, ENGINEERING AND MANUFACTURING
DIGITAL DESIGN AND MARKETING
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND COMPUTER SCIENCES
I had been enrolled in the Engineering strand for three years and served as the official student representative for this strand. This position is similar to that of a class president. My courses taught me the engineering design process and how to bring ideas to life. I built working cameras, rubber band powered gliders, mass produced nameplates, and so much more. You can find more information on my projects on the Projects Page or by clicking on the button below.
High School Extra Curricular Activities
Superintendents Student Advisory Council (SSAC) (Representative for the Engineering Strand at the ATC)
In this role I represent the engineering strand at our monthly SSAC meetings
My job is to work directly with the superintendent and his staff to address topics concerning the students, faculty, and parents from my school
Only about 30-35 students in the school district are selected for this committee
I am also expected to provide regular updates to the director of the ATC and keep up to date with current topics
Hack the Director (ATC Director's Student Advisory)
This advisory is similar to SSAC, but operates internally at the ATC
As a HTD member and SSAC member, I am expected to bring relevant topics to every meeting and stay up to date on current topics
I am also expected to prepare a report from the last SSAC meeting so that I can debrief the Directors Student Advisory
Generally, HTD members only report to the Director of the ATC

I'm expected to participate in school events and assist in planning activities
I also assist my senior advisor in managing the budget for most events and set up fundraisers to increase our funding
